The Second Amendment to the U. S. Constitution:

A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

Is Gun Control The Answer To Violence In America Today?

We have a major tragedy happening right here under our noses nearly everyday. Why do people build enough hatred inside their minds to actually lash out in extreme violence? Why do they not understand there are ramifications for their actions?

Who or what is the reason for these things happening?

In years gone by, the biggest worry we had in sending our kids to school was the local bully pushing your kid around. The absolute worst thing that would happen is someone would get a black eye! But not today. All to often we are hearing about the horrific tales and seeing news footage about another school shooting. Yet we continue to look in the wrong places for the answer...

We are very lucky down here in southwest Missouri. I have never heard the sound of a drive by shooting. I have never seen a "gang" of hoods. I understand that these things happen in the larger metropolitans of our country. However, to say that owning a firearm makes you a security risk to anyone is simply false. Instead of spending millions of dollars on programs to regulate who can buy or own a firearm lets look at what makes a person angry enough to pick up a gun, load it, drive somewhere, locate a target, raise the gun, site the gun, and decide to pull the trigger?

Like it or not guns do not fire by themselves. Someone decided to use these tools. That decision is what I want to look into. Take away the guns, you still have the decision to cause harm to another human. What element of our society has gone wrong? Within the boundaries of this topic I feel the problem is in the lack of self-discipline. Broken homes, "time-outs" vs. spanking and financial pressures on parents all add up to the "it can't be my fault" point the finger toward someone else complex that is currently ruling our society.

The answer is not simple. The answer is not easy. The answer will not come quick.

Until we as a people return to the ideals that our forefathers had. This will continue.

Up until this point I have been referring to "hand guns". The idea of altering the Second Amendment affects the sportsmen as well. I have many friends and family members that love to hunt and shoot sporting clays. To add restrictions to the hunter's rights to use firearms opens the door to a much broader topic. For example, did you know that through license fees and taxes on equipment, hunters and anglers contribute an average of $3 million each day to wildlife conservation.
Without hunters we would not have the programs that manage wild animals health and environment.

I will fight to maintain the Second Amendment and the rights of gun owners.

I will also be looking at ways to better understand our social troubles.
